Dear Henry,
Thank you for your willingness to watch the school and my pets while we’re away for a conference. Maryann said you do a wonderful job, and I’m glad that you’re going to be taking care of my good boys. You will find instructions on how to care for the animals attached to this letter. I do want to reiterate that the part about feeding the family of opossums living in the woods behind the school is not a joke. JD, Ms. Bitey, and their babies are very welcome here.
I did want to highlight a few things about the school:
As you may have gathered, there is a full size Victorian carousel in the gymnasium. It is currently disconnected and cannot be turned on. I would encourage staying away from it on the whole. There is nothing wrong with it, per se, I just don’t have the insurance needed to let anyone else ride or operate it. Honestly, just keep the doors to the gym and the stage shut, I don’t want any of the animals to get out there.
I understand it might be kind of odd living in an old school building. I recommend familiarizing yourself with the building to get comfortable. It’s an old building, so you might sometimes hear sounds like the building settling, try not to worry too much. Sometimes the building settling may sound like the piano playing in the music room. I try not to worry about it. [Piano music begins playing softly in the background as A-G says “I try not to worry about that”]
Along those lines, I understand how it might be lonely in a big building all by yourself, feel free to have a friend over to keep you company, I completely support that decision. [Piano stops, then a door slams in the distance, then A-G sighs almost imperceptibly]
Finally, if anything should happen in which you need to contact me, you’ll find my number, as well as the number for my roommate, Billy, and my parents in the emergency contacts attached. You can call at any time.
Thank you again for your willingness to take care of things in my absence.
Sincerely,
Dr. Anna-Georgina Plume,
Assistant Professor of Architectural History, Hollingsworth University
P. S. If a woman stops by asking about a necklace, please try to get her number. I can never seem to track her down.
