Audio diary of Dr. Anna-Georgina Plume, December 17, 1 pm.
We are 5 days away from the faculty holiday party I agreed to host and 7 days away from the Plume family Christmas Eve celebration, and I have clearly procrastinated on decorating as my writing has been all consuming. And the electrical disturbances causing the carousel to turn on, particularly after midnight, are back.
Why did I volunteer to host both events? I mean, I know everyone was like “Anna-Georgina lives in an old school, she has plenty of room to host…” but I shouldn’t have let them make that decision for me.
Anyway… No sense in delaying the inevitable.
School decoration plan
Classroom 1-C/Formal Living room
9-foot tree, decorated in purple and silver ornaments, artificial snow on coffee table and end tables.
Kindergarten classroom/informal living room
6-foot tree in Victorian Christmas motif, stockings on the ledge by the door, advent calendar on the other side of ledge, yule log video on the projector.
Classroom 1-B/Dining room
Small tree as centerpiece to table, with evergreen garland running the length of the table, all decorated in blue and white snowflake pattern. For Christmas Eve, use formal settings at the table, check with Mom and Nana about the menu. For the faculty party, serve potluck buffet style. Here’s hoping Marcy doesn’t bring those atrocious prune bars again.
Classroom 1-A/Home office.
Closed for event, but put a small tree in the corner with a floral motif, keep the place festive
Front vestibule
Four evergreen wreaths with red velvet bows on each of the classroom doors, evergreen garland running the hallway
Gymnasium
Assortment of Santa hats, festive garlands, etc for the carousel animals, evergreen garland around the canopy of the carousel.
Note: the lights of the carousel should be on, but the carousel itself needs to be secured and off, to keep it from randomly turning on again.
Should I keep the piano open? Pros: Someone might start playing holiday songs. Cons: No one might start playing holiday songs--and I’ll be unable to explain the music.
Make sure the basement lock is secured. As much as I’m trying to keep guests to the three front rooms and the gym, I’m okay letting people explore the space, but my arm still hurts thinking about what happened in the basement this summer, and we can’t risk anyone else getting hurt down there
Maybe we could use the PA system to play soft holiday music? Before I do that, I should get a repairperson out here to inspect it. I’d hate for it to start broadcasting random voices again… There has to be a way to stop it picking up those signals. Though maybe someone from the modern language department could tell me what language they’re speaking in the non-English broadcasts…
[Ten seconds of carousel music with sleigh bells overlapping, fade out as the following narration begins]
